Temporary Cover required for UCLIC Demonstratorship

This position would suit someone doing a postgraduate research degree, or a postgraduate wanting extra part-time work over a year, with start from 1 July 2022.

The successful candidate will undertake teaching and technical support activities in UCLIC. The work will be undertaken alongside their own PhD programme or other part-time work.

Teaching Activities
The Demonstrator will support UCLIC academics in delivering outstanding teaching activities on the MSc Human Computer Interaction, such as the Interaction Science module in Term 1 and optional modules in Term 2. The Demonstrator may be required to assist with online support for teaching such as maintaining materials in Moodle and transcribing lectures for offline dissemination to students.

Technical Support Activities
The Demonstrator will provide technical support with maintaining the UCLIC Usability Laboratory and managing bookings. In addition, the demonstrator will provide technical assistances for MSc Projects and department equipment.

Pay and Hours
A minimum stipend of £3,350 will be paid over the year with the possibility of top-ups for any additional work. Weekly hours will vary according to the demands of role, some of which are concentrated at specific points in the academic year. Typically, most of the work is concentrated in the Autumn Term. Hours will be decided flexibly in consultation with the MSc HCI Programme Director, the UCLIC Manager and the Senior Teaching & Learning Administrator.

Skills required
Candidates should have experience of supporting teaching or mentoring of students in the context of a taught university degree programme. Applicants should be technically competent with an interest in the lab and its maintenance with the ability to learn new technologies quickly. There will be a short handover period and any necessary training will be provided.
