WEISS team going from strength to strength
Congratulations to the team at the Wellcome/EPSRC Centre for Interventional and Surgical Sciences (WEISS) for being awarded second place in the best project award (medical education category) at the Medical Augmented Reality Summer School (MARSS2022), Balgrist University Hospital, Zurich.
'CAL-Tutor' is a mixed-reality platform for training in obstetric sonography. Sonographers rely on their skill and experience in order to relate the ultrasound image to the baby's anatomy. To assist trainees in learning this relationship, the researchers have developed a system consisting of an ultrasound scanner and phantom, where a 3D model of both the baby and the ultrasound slice can be displayed to the trainee in-situ through augmented reality enabled via the Microsoft HoloLens v2 headset (smart glasses). This system could help clinical practice and improve guidance for obstetric ultrasound trainees.
