Giulia Barbareschi

Brief biography
Currently Honorary Lecturer in Disability Innovation, Department of Computer Science, UCL.
From the 1st of November 2021 I will be starting my appointment at the Keio School of Media Design under the title JSPS Research Fellow.
Formerly a Research Fellow in Disability Innovation at UCLIC and the GDI Hub working on the £20 million programme "AT2030 - Life Changing Assistive Technology for All". My work focuses on understating to leverage technology to support people with disabilities.
With a background in physiotheraphy and medical device science and a PhD in Disability and Assistive technology, throughout my career I have worked in hospitals, universities and UN agencies in several countries around the world. My research lies at the intersection of technology, disability and design with strong influences from disability studies and international development. As part of my work I design and implement studies with other universities, private institutions and NGOs to evaluate the impact of using different types of technologies, from mobile phones to prosthetics sockets, for people with disabilities who live in low-and-middle income countries. I am also a BSA Media Fellow and a STEM ambassador and I have an interest in science communication and education.
