Brief biography

Past

Between 1979 and 2001, I was Reader, then, Professor of Cognitive Ergonomics, Director for the Ergonomics and HCI Unit - EU, (which preceded UCLIC) and Director of Studies for both the MSc and PhD programs.

Details of my individual activities in these respects can be found via the following tabs at the top of the page: Education; Employment; Administration and Teaching; Presentations; Grants and Contracts; Publications; and Professional Activities;

For further details, please contact me directly: j.long@ucl.ac.uk

Present

I continue to complete, write up, publish and present my research. However, my main activity, these days, is setting up a Legacy Archive for EU research publications in the UCL Discovery repository: discovery.ucl.ac.uk/about.html. The introduction to the archive is a website front end: www.hciengineering.net, consisting of the following sections:

  1. Introduction to HCI Engineering
  2. The Past of HCI Engineering: (i) Ergonomics Unit Research; (ii) John Long Festschrift
  3. The Present and Future of HCI Engineering: (i) Papers; (ii) Dialogues; (iii) Personnel Views; (iv) Interviews; (v) Review Requests; (vi) Frequently Asked Questions; (vii) Conceptions for All; (viii) Seminar Notes and Questions; (ix) EU Student Reflections Questions;

For further information and especially enquiries concerning how to contribute to the sections of the website, please contact John Long directly j.long@ucl.ac.uk
