Integrating HCI concerns into the design of safety-critical interactive systems: A case study
Abstract
The integration of human computer interaction (HCI) concerns into industrial design practice of safety-critical interactive systems is discussed. In safety-critical applications, where poor designing can be lethal as failure have a safety implication, user centered design techniques are practically useful. It is important to identify requirements at the start of system development, which any design must satisfy to meet the safety level desired for that system. To be able to specify important safety requirements relating to user, usability evaluation activity must be undertaken from the start. The implementation of programmable user modeling (PUM) technique in safety engineering of a communication system is also discussed.
